Kim Kardashian Says She’s ‘Satisfied’ After Robbery Verdict in Paris

Rabat – A Paris court sentenced the men who robbed American reality star Kim Kardashian in 2016 to prison on Friday, but none of them will go back behind bars.
Kim Kardashian, who was tied up at gunpoint during the robbery, said she was “satisfied” with the verdict. In a statement shared by her lawyers, she thanked the French authorities for seeking justice.
“This was the most terrifying experience of my life,” Kardashian said. “It left a lasting mark on me and my family. While I will never forget what happened, I believe in growth and responsibility, and I hope for healing for everyone involved.”
Four men were convicted of kidnapping Kardashian at gunpoint and stealing jewelry worth nearly $10 million.
The court handed down prison terms of up to three years, though the judge admitted the punishments were not harsh. Prosecutors had asked for 10 years in prison for the gang who broke into Kardashian’s luxury apartment in Paris during the night of October 2–3, 2016.
The judge said that the ruling comes many years after a serious event, and noted that the court considered how much time had passed and the health conditions of the key suspects.
After the verdict, the men hugged their families and left the court.
A verdict of forgiveness and belief in second chances
The mastermind, Omar Ait Khedache, 69, was sentenced to eight years in prison, five of which were suspended. The remaining three years will be combined with a sentence he is already serving, so he will not go back to prison. Khedache is deaf and nearly mute, and suffers from back pain and diabetes. He followed the four-week trial by reading transcripts on a screen.
Another man, Didier Dubreucq, also 69, was sentenced to seven years, but he had already served two years in custody while awaiting trial. He is currently undergoing chemotherapy and was in the hospital during the verdict.
Younes Abbas, 71, who had heart surgery while in pretrial detention and suffers from Parkinson’s disease, was also found guilty but will not return to prison.
When Kardashian testified in court last week, she said she had forgiven Khedache but added that it “does not erase the trauma.” Fighting back tears, she told him, “I forgive you,” and added, “I believe in second chances.”
